I made a promise to myself to start Inktober when I was done with school again - and I am pleased to say that I have!
...Well, sort of. It's been a while since I have drawn "seriously", so I wanted to get back to the basics, and just draw with pencil, focusing on developing skill back instead of focusing on end product, like Inktober often forces you to do; so I made Inktober into Drawtober.I can already see some progress as I am getting my jive back - and it feels REALLY GOOD - like, better than it did before. I was so focused on the result when I was younger that drawing was painfully tedious. Now, I am learning to have fun with it, so it's not so painstakingly...well, painful. I think an important thing to note in your drawings, as you make progress, is how you felt during the drawing process. I can tell you which drawings I was very frustrated with and which I felt free - and they may or may not have correlated with how they turned out.
My husband and I are going through the course "Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards via her book. We have wanted to do a drawing course together but couldn't bring ourselves to spend $1400 on a 8 week course; instead, I dug this book out from my library and we are doing it together. Some of my Drawtober days are the exercises in the book. My husband has been super supportive of my drawing and goes through the readings and exercises with me - he's very interested in the whole thing, and it's blowing his mind! I'm very excited for him, as well!
